Phil Bildner, author of the popular Rip & Red series, and twenty other titles presented three very enthusiastic sessions for all of MSP's students on October 25. 2018. He emphasized the importance of reading and how reading can make one a more empathetic person. He also, reminded students that writing is a process which requires multiple edits, revisions, and drafts.
Mr. Blidner discussed many of his favorite books, including one, The Poet X, written by one of his former students, Elizabeth Acevedo. This title was recently nominated for the Kirkus Award and is a National Book Award finalist. He shared the writing and editing process, as well as how an author and illustrator collaborate to create a final book and cover.
At the conclusion of the presentations, 24 teacher- selected students joined Mr. Bildner in the library for an enjoyable lunch catered by Gnazzo's and an illuminating and enjoyable chat. A special thanks to Mrs. Lynch, our library media specialist for arranging this visit; also, to the PTC for funding the lunch.
