On March 6, 2020 the University of Connecticut's premier
a cappella group "Conn-Men" visited the Middle School of Plainville to present a concert to the student body. The concert included a variety of well-known pop songs from yesterday and today. The concert session featured a number of positive and supportive messages from the University students challenging students to consider their future, their interests, their careers, and goals while keeping active music-making as an integral part of their lives.
The Conn-Men were founded in 2001 and have performed around the country included for the governor of Connecticut and at the White House in Washington DC. Most members are typical college students majoring in academic studies such as economics, nursing, etc. These students share a connection through their love of singing and performing music.
Kyle Smith is a member of the Conn-Men as well as a graduate of MSP and a product of the Plainville Community Schools. In addition to leading a solo, Kyle gave a demonstration on beatboxing and discussed how music was a constant in his life and has helped bring success and enrich his life while pursuing an academic career.
The Middle School of Plainville is most appreciative of the Elizabeth Norton Trust Fund which provided grant funding to support this interactive and engaging event for the entire student body at the Middle School of Plainville.
